A magic that can be felt
We feel strongly linked to our territory.
We perceive this magic of unique places, where the landscape
and varieties shine with special plenitude.
Captivating. A perfect land surrounded by forest.
Carignan vines oriented to the northwest, trapping the winter heat
winter and seeking the coolness of summer nights.
This is the maximum expression of Oller del Mas.
Harvested by hand and following our philosophy:
Minimum intervention.
Aged in noble woods and carefully kept in this bottle
until today
The vineyard hut and the dry stone terraces make up the plot: La Masia, a plot of land that was destroyed by fire in 1986 and abandoned. Subsequently, it was conquered by the forest, remaining hidden and forgotten for more than 50 years. It is a unique and admirable plot of land, rescued in the form of an amphitheater in which the dry stone terraces meander surrounded by forest and nature, always with an eye on the mountains of Montserrat.
The magic of a unique place under the contemplation of Montserrat and whose height captures the sense of sight of anyone. The process of recovery of this wonder was carried out with the collaboration of Caritas, where people at risk of social exclusion have worked. This restoration was awarded by the Viu la Pedra Seca contest organized by the DO Pla de Bages, which aims to promote the rehabilitation of this heritage and to value the research work, educational activities, itineraries and actions for the promotion and dissemination of dry stone.
On October 1, 2018, this prized plot was harvested by hand. An 18 year old Carinyena planted in clay loam sun and following the parameters of organic and regenerative agriculture. Winemaker Carles Muray has been studying for 3 years the behavior of the estate’s soils with respect to climate change and notes:
“It is a great curiosity how the adaptation of the varieties to the soils of the estate varies. Carinyena has been marked by a change, and we are very excited about the product it offers us. It is said that bottling the wines in Luna “turning off” is positive for aging. It has been a good idea to do a cold maceration, the extraction of the skins has been very gentle. Perhaps we could even say that in the mouth it is defined as a “fresh” Carinyena. We are very happy, we will gain personality. We bottle it to finish refining it.”
2018 It was a complicated vintage that began with a very cold and rainy winter. The spring was unusually rainy and cold, which required intense work to maintain good health in the vineyard. The summer was cold and dry, which resulted in late ripening and a very balanced grape.
A Carinyena aged in Slavonia oak barrels and cement egg for fifteen months and thirty months in the bottle. With an average production of 4,100 kilos per hectare of this first vintage of this minimal intervention wine, only 642 bottles have been produced.
The label is an ode in the air. The yellow color is a tribute to the element “air” referring to its subtle yet harmonious complexity (a project with the objective of completing four natural elements, with four wine references). In addition, the label’s typography is made with Frank Margenat’s (the owner’s) great-grandfather’s typewriter, a 1904 Remington.
A fresh, subtle and complex wine. It stands out for its elegance and harmony with an unusual complexity.
A wine that expresses the landscape, the climate and the purity of this variety so appreciated by the winery. A commitment to native varieties, identity and commitment to our history.
The reflection of the landscape and the territory in the bottle. This is magic.
