PUNCTUALITY
Matches shall start at the announced times, without delay. Match times shall be publicised with sufficient notice, and it is the player’s responsibility to stay informed.
DRESS CODE
Players must wear appropriate sports clothing and footwear; sleeveless shirts or bathing suits are not permitted. If you do not follow the dress code, you will be informed and must correct it; otherwise you will be disqualified. In team competitions, we recommend that players wear the same kit, although this is not compulsory.
Players may use the clothing, footwear and rackets that they like, as long as they comply with regulations. In international tournaments, match officials must wear clothing that identifies them as such.
Players must behave in a pleasant and polite manner throughout the tournament, even when not participating, and respect everyone present.
Likewise, officials must behave properly and remember the penalties that referees can impose.
PLAY AREA
The player or players may not leave the play area during the match, including during the warm-up or knock-up, without the permission of the Referee. The Play Area includes the court and the space immediately around it.
ADVICE AND INSTRUCTIONS
Each pair of players may take advice and instructions from an accredited coach during the match, both in doubles tournaments and in team tournaments, as long as it is during the breaks.
AWARDING OF PRIZES
Players or teams who are playing in a tournament final must take part in the award ceremony that takes place once the tournament is finished, unless this is not possible due to proven injury or illness or another justifiable reason.
CONTINUOUS PLAY AND/OR DELAY TO PLAY
Once the match has started, play must be continuous and no player should hold it up without reasonable cause, as per the times stated in Rule 2 of the Rules of Play.
AUDIBLE OR VISIBLE OBSCENITIES
An audible obscenity is the use of words commonly considered to be rude or offensive and that are uttered sufficiently clearly to be heard by the Referee, spectators and tournament organisers.
Visible obscenities are signals or gestures made with the hands and/or racket or balls, commonly considered to have an obscene or offensive meaning.
MISUSE OF BALLS
Players may at no time throw the ball violently outside the court in any direction or send it aggressively to the other side of the net when not playing.
MISUSE OF RACKET OR OTHER EQUIPMENT
Players may at no time intentionally throw their racket or hit it violently on the ground, the net, the Referee’s chair, the walls, the metal meshing or any other part of the facilities.
VERBAL AND PHYSICAL ABUSE OR AGGRESSION
This is considered to be any particularly serious aggressive and unsportsmanlike behaviour, attitudes or gestures from players towards the Referee, opponents, partner, spectators or anyone else present at the tournament. Verbal insults are judged to be any vocal expression that can be considered insulting, contemptuous or obviously mocking.
BEST EFFORT
All players must make their best effort to win the match they are playing.
UNSPORTSMANLIKE BEHAVIOUR
Players must at all times behave in a sportsmanlike manner, avoiding any actions that go against the spirit of sportsmanship, competition or the rules or fair play in general.
PENALISATION/THE PENALISATION TABLE
During the match, any breach of any of the rules mentioned will be sanctioned by the referee of the tournament in accordance with the Penalisation Table shown below. In addition to this, the Competition Committee may take disciplinary measures in relation to the same incident, by applying the Rules of Sports Discipline.
Penalisation Table
First breach: Warning
Second breach: Warning with a loss of one point.
Third breach: Warning and disqualification.
Any infringements committed by either player in the pair or their accredited coach will be accumulated.
IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION
In cases of a serious breach of the rules (very serious physical or verbal aggression) the Referee may rule that the player or coach committing the offence be disqualified immediately. If a player is disqualified during a match, he or she loses that match and must leave the tournament. If an accredited coach or captain or player who is registered in the tournament is disqualified, they must leave.
